Project Title: The
Fishnet Project (FNP)
The philosophy and importance
of the FNP cannot be overstated. It can only be summed up in these words
of Lao Tzu “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him
how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.
BCA-USA through the FNP will
provides assistance (Funding) to young Balis aged between 16 and 35
years who are willing and ready to under take 3 to 24 months vocational
or skill training in the following fields:
- Building Construction
- Carpentry (Modern Furniture)
- Computer Training (Data Processing, Computer/Hardware Maintenance)
- Hair Dressing
- Motor Technician
- Tailoring
- Traditional Wears Designing, etc.
The goal of BCA-USA through
the FNP initiative is to sort out talented unprivileged and disadvantaged
Balis kids who for some reasons could not afford second/high school
education, secondary/High school dropped outs or second/high school
graduates who cannot afford higher education, and provide them with
the skills training they need to become self reliance, responsible and
respectful people is the Bali community.
Implementation
The Project Committee will
set up a profile that prospective applicants will be required to follow.
An Ad Hoc Committee consisting
of about 3 or 4 members headed by say, the BANDECA Pdt, will be formed
in Bali to assist the Project Committee.
After the formation of the
Ad Hoc Committee, an announcement will be made through the various Ndakums
in Bali and Bali net forums for prospective applicants to send their
applications to Ad Hoc Committee.
The Ad Hoc Committee will do
the prescreening of the applicants to select 2 applicants per offer
and the Project Committee will do the final selection.
Upon completion of the selection
process, fund will be disbursed to the Ad Hoc Committee to enroll and
pay the first installment fees/tuition of the candidates in the various
training centers.
Evaluation
The number of applications received will act a yard stick for the measure of the Bali community awareness and involvement in the FNP. Also the evaluation of the FNP will come from:
- Staffs of the various training centers
- Opinion surveys requesting response to the implementation and effectiveness of the FNP
Cost
The cost of the FNP will depend largely on the number of offers and fields. Hardware maintenance, carpentry (Modern Furniture) and motor technician training cost between CFA 100,000 to 200,000 ($200 to $400) and the rest between CFA 50,000 to 100,000 ($100 to $200).
At least CFA125,000 ($200)
will be allocated to the Ad Hoc Committee for the processing and emailing
of the prescreened applicants profiles to the Project Committee.
The Fishnet
Project Implementation
The Project Committee has decided
to start the execution of the Fishnet Project on May 01, 2009 with 30
candidates. The following training centers will be used:-
- Handicraft Centre Bali
- Freeman’s Tailoring School
- Ni Zack’s Welding Workshop
- Fidelis’ Traditional
Regalia Designing Centre
Handicraft Centre basic entry requirements are First School Leaving Certificate and proof of good character. Handicraft Centre also has as a tradition that new trainees provide lunch to the other trainees and trainers on their first day at the centre.
The rest of the centers don’t
have any special requirements. Handicraft Center and Ni Zack’s welding
Workshop accept payments in 3 installments and the rest accept payments
in 2 installments.
An Ad Hoc Committee has been formed in Bali comprising of the following:-
- Ni John Fomuso – President of BANDECA
- Mrs. Helen Ndangam – President of SOHA (Spring Of Hope Association for the Disables)
- Ni Paul Mubang – Bali Representative of NWPSFH (N W Provincial Special Fund for Health)
- Ma Helen Fohtung – Treasurer, Nkumu Fed Fed
- Ni Chistopher Nyamsenkwen – Former Mayor, Bali Rural Council
An announcement will be sent
through the Ad Hoc Committee before March 25, 2009, to the churches
and Ndakums in Bali for interested candidates to apply for the various
trades.
The Ad Hoc Committee will meet
before April 15, 2009 to interview and select the candidates. A list
of the selected candidates and their profiles will be compiled by the
Ad Hoc Committee and sent to the Project Committee via email.
The Project Committee will
disburse funds through the Ad Hoc Committee to the various training
centers.
